America's Unclaimed History

America's Unclaimed History In-Person

A documentary film series exploring cringe-worthy moments in American history.  Learn about our past and take a look at decisions facing us today. Will our collective conscience be clear in the future?  (First Friday each month all year - different topics every month.)

This month: Harvest of Shame 52 minutes

A rebroadcast of the 1960's "Harvest of Shame," in which Edward R. Murrow exposed the plight of America's farm workers. Contains new commentary exploring the importance of the original broadcast.

The report showed how migratory workers lived, traveled, and labored in American fields and orchards. One group was filmed as it journeyed north from a marshaling point at Belle Glade, Florida, working in fields, traveling in crowded trucks and buses and living in squalid shacks. Another group was followed along the Atlantic coast, and other workers were on the highways and at the labor camps in Georgia, North Carolina, and Michigan.
